NHRA U.S. Nationals - Indianapolis, IN
The U.S. Nationals is the largest and most prestigious drag race in the world and the Trick-Tools team brought their A-game with hopes to take home their first win. 5 days of racing and 5 qualifying session adds to the challenges and the competition but when the dust settled we were sitting solidly in the 5th spot with a 6.878 @ 197.08 mph. Even better, we were able to clinch our spot in the Countdown to the Championship!
Monday eliminations brought the weekend's hottest temps and some tricky track conditions. First round we raced #12 qualifier Ryan Oehler. WAR crew chief Tim Kulungian proved his expertise in hot weather with a stellar 6.857 and Chase sealed the deal with a great .006 reaction time!
Second round we faced 6x champion Matt Smith. All weekend long we had been running very close to Matt in ET and knew it would be a tough one. Both riders left the line well, Matt's .024 light to Chase's .014, but at the finish line Matt's 6.86 edged out our 6.89 by only .018 seconds. Congratulations to Matt and the MSR team who went on to win the event.
The points reset for the Countdown keeps us 7th but brings everyone back within reach so it is time to buckle down for the final stretch. Reading, PA is the next stop on the tour and we are feeling good!
