SDBA Season Opener at Brainerd Motorsports Park

Race Report: The Trick-Tools Team showed up for the Southeastern Drag Bike Association - SDBA season opening race in Ringgold, Georgia with a brand new engine and no test passes under their belt hoping to sort things out quickly and start the season competitively. Testing on Friday showed a lot of promise with minimal bugs to work out but racing on Saturday was a washout with morning showers postponing the event until Sunday.
Sunday morning conditions were excellent and their Q1 effort resulted in a too quick 4.58 on the 4.60 second index. Q2 the team ran a slightly off 4.65 landing them 8th in the extremely tough 10 bike field.
First round pairings matched up veteran racer Charlie Farrar on Broderick Jackson’s beautiful bike “2020” alongside Chase on the Trick-Tools entry. Both riders had good reactions but Charlie took an immediate lead with an incredible .998 second 60’ time leaving Chase to play catch-up. At the finish line the margin of victory was just over one-hundredth of a second as Charlie’s too-quick 4.57 was passed by Chase’s perfect 4.600. The perfect elapsed time netted the Van Sant Team a $100 bonus thanks to Cooper Performance!
Second round eliminations paired Chase against Pro Extreme racer Tommy Saxon from Georgia. Unfortunately, the day came to an abrupt end for Chase and the Van Sant Team with a foul start, only to run another near perfect pass of 4.602!
With several races on the schedule and a bike working nearly flawlessly the team is optimistic about the year ahead and anxious for the upcoming Derby Bike Bash coming up at the Ohio Valley Dragway May 1-2.
Special congratulations to Mike Murphy and team for their first 4.60 win at the event!
